Hello i am trying to find out about verti-cutting and what is the proper practice. At the moment i am looking at purchasing a machine so any ideas on which one to buy would be fantasic. As a home garden nut on a large block i have devolped my gardens over the last 21 years and only the last 3 years have really started to look after my turf kikuyu and tifway i know this is a very open question but for me me it is a start i live in Toowoomba Queensland Thank you for any advice

Hi Brian

Little and often.
Maybe you can go a harder on the Kikuyu to start with as its a grass that can take it.

Lots of bowling green reel mowers can have adaptations like the attached picture. Its often worth having one mower just for cutting and one just for verticutting. The mowers will have longer life spans that way.

But I would aim to verticut every 2 weeks in the growing season about once a month in winter. Not sure what Toowooma is like you might have 12months growing season?

Thank you for the info i like the idea of having the 2 machines so much easier than changing over the blades to the reel and back again.
Anonymous what brand is in the picture.

Looks like a Protea to me Brian.

Not sure if they are sold in Australia by anyone? Maybe someone can help me out if they are?

Protea are made in South Africa and i have seen them in the UK and in NZ but not in Oz before

They are a good little more sold pretty cheap around the world, would be ideal for what your after.
