Has anyone out there had any experience with using silicone liquid on tift to help achieve more pace?I have heard it is big up north, any ideas?

Used it regularly in SE Qld with good results. Helps harden and stand the leaf up. The 1st cut after an application will let you know if it is working -- almost double the clip rate is removed.

Bear in mind liquid silica is like chlorothalonil/mancozeb and with regular mowing on a greens situation the best you will get will be 7-14 days as you are removing it. Excellent for tournament preparation but in all honesty at the rate of 3L/Ha I question if it has any effect at all. If anyone is interested I have a recipe kicking around for a rather nice potassium silicate you can use at 20-40L/Ha with no phyto. Did trials on it about 10 years ago and some greenkeepers lost the nap on their greens. They were like glass!!

I would definitely be interested in that `home brew`,it could come in handy for the upcoming pennant season. The bowlers expect nothing less than 15 seconds so any little tricks of the trade I can do to achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

15 used to be 16.5 with the old bowl, expectations hve definately increased with the advent of the narrow tighter line bowl. funny isn't it that they want it quicker to see more draw....all a fucking optical illusion....tis out of control can't wait for the glow in the dark bowls....facts are when using a tighter running bowl( think of it like walking a tightrope 20 feet in the air the difference between a two inch rope and a 3mm piece of string) bowlers need to know how to bowl and unfortunately alot don't therefore their bowl doesn't do what it should ....hence blame the greens!!!!!!

SA BOY with ya on that... bowlers need to realise that their bowl is just doing what it is designed to do..... run narrow... when I first began greenkeeping ( 15years ago ) 14 - 15 secs was the acceptable speed... even quick in those days, now thats considered slow... if their bowl hits a run, bump, the wind picks up.... it is always blamed on the green, when it is their bowl that is the problem, get an old bowl put it down on the same rink and see what he result is.

Couldn't agree with you guys more, narrow bias bowls are exactly what the name says thier going to be.

jerry - what is your take on the Floratine silica product Turgor that is claimed to actually be taken into the plant as opposed to just coating it...????
I think nearly every supplier/manufacturer has a Silica product on the market.
