Career change.
Can anyone give me some advice about becoming a groundsman. For the summer just passed I have been helping maintain the local cricket club and producing pitches for league fixtures.I have enjoyed every minute of it and believe that it is a career which I wish to pursue. Can any one tell me which qualifications I need to gain to make me employable in the turf care industry

Career Change
Pete, thanks for the reply,I live in surrey. As for experience,I have passed the IOG/ECB Training & Development for cricket groundsman level one,and as previously mentioned, during the summer producing wickets for matches for my club.I have now completed the winter square renovation, and am delighted to see the sown seed has produced a lush green carpet!I started the summer with an opened mind and clean fingernails,I finished it finding job satisfaction, knowing this is a career for me.Have you any suggestions of which qualifications I need to gain to make me employable.

Job vacancy at The Hurlingham Cub
We will shortly have a vacancy on the Grounds team at the Hurlingham Club.
Ideally we are looking for someone with experience as we are losing someone who has three years experience plus some qualifications in Sports Turf maintenance.
We would however consider someone who had little experience but showed a real interest and enthusiasm in a career in Groundsmanship and we would consider providing scope for day release career related further education to the right candidate.
The club is near central London and cheap accomodation is hard to find. As we are not offering accomodation with the post and the salary will be £15000 maximum anyone interested from outside Greater London may find relocation difficult.
Having said that, the position offers a great deal of variety and interest with 45 acres of grounds and gardens in an English Country House setting which includes 27 grass tennis courts, 10 croquet lawns, 2 bowling greens plus a cricket ground(Cliff?) and several ornamental lawn areas.
If anyone is interested they can contact me in the first instance @ peter.craig@hurlinghamclub.org.uk or petermarkcraig@aol.co.uk
