laundry at leicester

how nice and considerate of the leicester players to re-employ the laundry lady,as reported in the sun 25th oct, what about the other 30-odd people including chris parry who lost their jobs as a result of the players not doing their job properly in the first place.this shows what players really are at times, they wouldnt dream of washing their own kit so it must have them worried that they mayget mud in their wahing machines at home(top of the range no doubt.i wonder what their feelings would be if the pitches started to deteriorate due to less staff working on them.i'm sure this is a worrying time both for chris and also for the staff he left behind who are probably wondering how long thay may have left due to the failings of the £5,000-£30,000 a week men that hey prepare surfaces for day in day out.congratulations to pitchcare as well for taking the matter to the fa,what other organisation has brought this to their notice, and is doing their best to bring chris' plight to be noted at the very top of the footballing tree?????

jobs for the boys?

I may make a few enemies here but I once lost a job at a football club and also recently have been unemployed for a month. It seems that there is a bad trend of if you know someone in this industry you help them and outsiders can sod off. I wouldn`t have got a petition for my case and unfortunately people are losing there jobs everyday. Sorry to the guy from Leicester, losing your job is terrible especially if you are good at it but this happens. Remember though there are lots of good groundsmen out there who are not even given a chance in the first place because they are not `one of the boys`.

steve boy

i have been in the same boat as chris while it is not nice. iam sure that if this web site was around a couple of years ago and you or i got in touch to state our cases we would have got the backing of this site and of our fellow groundsmen/greenkeepers who would help us find another job or is it look after number 1? i hope not.
that is what is the matter with this trade it is jobs for the boys (who not what you know)it is 2002 lets drag this industry in to it just like this web site is doing

the whole trade

This is a very sad week in groundmanship. when there are groundsmen like Chris from LCFC out of work and handled in such a bad way!! I wish Chris all the best (You wont be out of work for long as you are a good and well respected g man) As for the rest of it, I have been on here in the past asking about other grounds related issues such as pay and how people with in the trade progress with out this (as other have mentioned) who you know not what you know!!!! I think as i have said before we all need to club together and stand up and be counted. I feel the other organisation that say they care about the groundsmen are not meeting what I feel is the right level. so now is the time too do it (stand up for our trade and stand up for US ) As who knows whats round the corner Money is tight and you or me could be next!!! Please reply as I would like to stand up be counted and like Chris and others need your backing and support!!

Jobs for the boys

Whilst it's true that the support for Chris may be based upon the high-profile organisation he worked for, I think it's fair to say that Pitchcare and it's members would make stance for anybody who came on this site with a similar story. If you've been treated similarly, lets hear from you so that we can speak out for you too! We know that Chris's story isn't unique BUT IF YOU DON'T SPEAK OUT WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! Make yourselves known, because any action taken is for the good of us all, not just for one individual.

Comments

Pitchcare was set up to provide an easy, efficient medium for our Industry. It is a vehicle for its members to use and voice opinions. In respect to Stevie boy's comments, we have highlighted Chris Parry's case, because (while I'm afraid to say it) that's how this world works-people listen harder when someone is publicly known. However if you are a regular on this site you will also see that we continually publicise the lads, currently looking for work in our job section, and I have had numerous conversations with many of these guys and clubs in trying to source work for them. We work closely with Helen Whiting at Groundsearch and I generally pass on CV's to her to aid our out of work members.
However, these are presently tough times, we have a dire economy and everybody has tightened their purse strings accordingly. We have written to Adam Crozier to bring the plight of Groundsmen to the fore and we will continue to fight for our Industry rights. One thing that concerns me is that we get nearly 300 people every day on this site of which about 100 are members-yet even in a situation where a well known club sets a precedent of making a skilled Head Groundsmans job redundant, only a handful of members are prepared to make their feelings known-even though they can do it anonymously on the message board! If we want to get a better deal then we need to pull in the same direction, most people I speak to want change, but few seem prepared to make it happen. I am doing my best, but need support from others for it to happen. I would also like to thank everyone for their comments to date, I know that Chris and his family are extremely appreciative.

will this set the world on fire?

as a "now qualified" groundsman for a local authority, the one thing that has driven me is the need to raise the standards of all our sports surfaces, in the vain hope that this will in some small way, raise the standard of sportsman at this end of the spectrum. but when i see a quality professional just brushed aside by a club of leicester city fc`s standing, with obvious disregard for the quality of their playing surface, then i have to wonder at their integrity as a footballing club and the wasted love and commitment that this grondsman has given them and what all groundspeole acoss the nation, at all levels, strive for? the highest standard of sports surfaces, the highest standard of sport. not anon.

in chris' case the fact that he lost his job was not his fault, could it be stevie boy that it is sour grapes on your part?as we know why chris no longer has a job,why were you laid off at your football club-tell us about it or if you arent prepared to offer support-SHUT UP

Me thinks it's best to get out of this industry,Now!

no sympathy

at the end of the day i knew what chris parry was like he was lazy, leicester probably saw him as not earning his money, at least dilly the laundry lady did a full days work without taking time off for STRESS!. lcfc are a business and a business needs to make money and if one of there workforce is slacking then they should shape up or ship out. eddie is doing a great job!
