re-laying

We are in the process of re-laying some wickets at our cricket club to alleviate the problem of bare patches and dead roots just below the surface. We have removed the turf to a depth of an inch and a quarter and broken the hard under surface to a further depth of 1". Our problem is that when we are re-loaming to what height should the new wickets be proud of the existing square to allow for sinking during the wet winter months and rolling in the spring to bring the whole square level

square

u should break up the sub soil more than an inch otherwise u will soon get the root break problem again just bring the soil up to the same level as the rest of the square u can always add more dressing if it sinks good luck

Thanks Pete.
That's what we thought, but we just wanted confirmation.
