A woman has had her arm amputated after she fell off a ride-on mower in far north Queensland.

An ambulance spokeswoman says the 37-year-old woman lost her right arm just below the elbow at a property at Julatten, north of Cairns, yesterday.

The woman's partner applied a tourniquet and met ambulance officers on the way to the Mossman Hospital.

She is now in a stable condition in the Cairns hospital.
