Premiership celebrations of Toowoomba cricketer Peter Reimers turned sour after he was at the centre of a vandalism attack this week.

Reimers was a pivotal member of Metroplitan-Easts’ grand final win against Railways at Heritage Oval on Sunday. Vandals, however, attacked the centre-wicket area of Captain Cook (6) Oval, writing messages in black paint. Some expletive-laden messages aimed at Australian Country representative Reimers were among the things painted on the field.

Other messages were aimed at Railways, while another stated “Go Souths A Grade – winners 2010-11”. Reimers’ father Ian, a Toowoomba police sergeant, said he was disappointed by the vandalism. “Any sort of vandalism of this nature is disappointing, but even moreso when it is so pointed,” Reimers said.

“We just hope the paint can be removed and it doesn’t kill the grass. “From a cricketing point of view, it reflects badly on the TCI and it reflects badly on a particular club.”

Reimers said Toowoomba Police scenes of crime officers had been at the ground and the incident was now being investigated by police.
