Vandalism in Wyong shire’s parks, gardens and ovals has already cost ratepayers more than $145,000 this year, and there’s still nine months to go.

The latest oval to be struck by vandals was the Killarney Vale athletics field on Wyong Rd, with a car driving through the wooden fence and ripping up the surface.

Council crews spent the best part of last week filling, repairing and replacing the grass and rolling and top dressing the oval in an exercise that cost about $1000. The council’s assistant open space and recreation manager Keith Ollier said vandalism in parks and gardens had cost $45,000 this year, while a further $16,000 had been spent on ovals.

Mr Ollier said the oval at Killarney Vale was in its best condition for years and ready for the kick-off of the Christian Churches Soccer Association competition.
