A $5 million upgrade for CUA Stadium and Howell Oval is expected to begin immediately.

Last week’s Federal Budget saw the delivery of the final $1 million instalment of a $5 million election promise to improve facilities at the so-called Penrith Valley Sports Hub. “The funding allows the council to do significant works that will benefit spectators and users at Penrith Stadium and Howell Oval,” a council spokesman said.

“The works ensure the grounds and stadium continue to be regionally significant facilities of which the community can be proud.”

External work at CUA includes improved spectator entrance and exit pathways and associated landscaping. Improved public amenities and upgraded food and beverage areas would also make the stadium more user friendly.

Penrith Cricket Club will receive the biggest benefit from the government grant, with the construction of a clubhouse a priority.

The project is expected to be completed by March 31 next year.
