The stadium seats 27,000 and has been named SKILLED PARK

The turf was washed to enable quicker establishment, and is only a couple of weeks old.

Artificial turf has been installed along the Western side to assist with wear and high usage during events. This turf is Tiger Turf R65, and is manufactured in NZ. It was chosen after testing and intensive research.

The natural turf -Grand Prix couch was selected after two years of extensive testing at the DPI by Dr Don Loch and Matt Roach, and also by an independent body -NZSTI led by Keith McAuliffe.

A total of 28 turf varieties were initially tested starting in 2000, and eventually limiting the final tests to eight varieties. Skilled Park

Testing included wear trials, divot recovery, water usage and fertiliser applications along with lignin and rhizome testing. Sections of plots were over seeded to judge wear and transition out.

David Nickson well known in the industry, was the turf's breeder.

The turf was grown at Turfforce on the Gold Coast hinterland, and was very well maintained during the stages of development.
Watpac are the principle contractor of the project.
