Plans were unveiled today for the Torquay Golf Club's $90 million redevelopment.

Torquay Golf Club members voted last May to hand over the club to the RACV following months of heated debate.

The motoring body's proposal was submitted to the Surf Coast Shire today and it includes a resort-style hotel with approximately 70 rooms and a range of recreational facilities including a swimming pool, tennis courts, gymnasium, kids games room, day spa and a wellness centre.

A 170-plus seat restaurant and a cafe, a conference centre and function rooms for up to 200 people are also part of the plans.

The 18-hole golf course will also be improved with a new irrigation system added.

RACV managing director and chief executive officer Colin Jordan said the company decided to increase the investment to the club from $55 million to up to $90 million following the assessment of the site and to make it an environmentally responsible project.
