Tickets to the rugby league Test between Australia and New Zealand that will be the first event at Melbourne's new rectangular stadium go on sale next week. Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium

The Test match will be played on Friday May 7, with tickets on sale from 9am Monday.

As well as the league international the venue will host Melbourne Storm rugby league home games, as well as the Melbourne Victory and from next year the Melbourne Heart soccer team and the Melbourne Rebels Super 15 rugby side.

Victorian sports minister James Merlino said a clash between traditional rivals and the two best rugby league nations in the world was a great way to open the new stadium. "It's a great chance for Victorian sports fans to support our national team and be part of a magnificent event to celebrate the opening of Melbourne's newest piece of world-class sporting infrastructure."

Merlino said Test match tickets, available through Ticketek, would be affordable for families, starting at $30 for adults and from $20 for children, pensioners and concession holders.

Merlino said the $267.5 million stadium would have a capacity of more than 30,000.
