When Players line up for the 2010 Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship at Sandhurst Club’s North Course on Thursday 11 February, Thomson Perrett designed golf courses will be on show for a second successive week.
This follows Thomson Perrett’s Moonah Open course hosting the 2010 Moonah Classic last week. The selection of these courses reflects Thomson Perrett’s ability to design championship courses that can test the best of local and overseas talent.
This year was the 3rd consecutive year Moonah Links Open Course hosted the Moonah Classic. The Open course was designed specifically to host major tournaments. A natural stadium layout with wide undulating fairways of pure couch grass, punctuated with pot bunkers leading onto large multi-tiered greens, it is one of Australia’s finest links courses.
This year it was enjoyed by an international line-up of golfers including American winner Jim Herman, defending champion Alistair Presnell, Peter Lonard, Craig Parry, Jarrod Lyle, Paul Sheehan and a host of other great players. The players, the course and the weather all combined to create a very exciting and memorable event resulting in a play-off between Herman and fellow countryman Chris Kirk.

We now look forward to The Sandhurst Club hosting the 2010 Cellarbrations Victorian PGA Championship, which begins on Thursday February 11. Sandhurst is the new home of the PGA of Australia headquarters having moved from its original base in Sydney to Sandhurst three years ago. The North Course was established in 2004 and the second course, the Champions layout, was opened in 2008. Thomson Perrett designed both courses.
This weeks field includes defending champion Andre Stolz, 2009 Moonah Classic Champion and local talent Alistair Presnell, 2010 Subaru Victorian Open winner Jason Norris, 2002 Australian Open Champion Steve Allan, multiple Japan Tour winners New Zealand’s David Smail and New South Welshman Paul Sheehan, big hitters Kurt Barnes and Steve Bowditch and up and coming talent Victorian Matthew Griffin.
