The Stawell Golf Club has been saved due to the hard work of its members. A year ago, the club was considering closing because of financial troubles.

A $50,000 water grant from the Federal Government upgraded the irrigation system, allowing the club to use black water on the grounds and save water costs.

Stawell Golf Club's Gavin Orr says members have been integral to keeping the course open, including volunteers taking over the greenkeeper's job.

"Thirty or 40 different members of the club offered money to assist the golf club, we were only going to use that money if we were in dire straits, and we weren't too far from being in a very bad situation ... $30,000-$40,000 was pledged by members and I'm happy to say that by this day we've offered all those members their money back," he said.
