Watching the grass grow, or should that be cut, is certainly no longer boring at the MCG.

In what’s been described as psychedelic, the famed MCG turf had a radical makeover for last Fridays 20/20 clash between Australia and Pakistan and also for Australia’s one-day international involving Australia and West Indies.

MCG curator Cameron Hodgkins came up with the idea to support the 20/20 concept and it was 14 days in the making!

“We have got an American guy, Tony ‘Flash’ Gordon, on board and he took it as a bit of a challenge to make sure everything was mathematically square so it didn’t look like a dogs breakfast, because it could have gone pear shaped” Hodgkins said.

“During the match I got 37 text messages. No one ever texts me except to let me know how poor my wickets are going, but all the talk was about the outfield” Don’t expect any new designs on the turf during the footy season “I think we’ll only get funky once a year” Hodgkins said “It will be line and length from now on”
