New South Wales Minister for Lands Tony Kelly has announced part of Taylor Oval in Moree will be sold to Woolworths to build a new store.

The State Government will gazette the decision in a fortnight.

In June 2007, the federal Department of the Environment listed Taylor Oval as an Aboriginal burial site.

But Mr Kelly says the sale will generate funds for much needed sporting facilities for the local Indigenous community.

"I intend to give consent for that sale and, as such, will now publicise a notice giving 14 days and will impose several conditions that any proceeds at all from the sale, the Reserve Trust will have to use those funds for the enhancement and improvement of existing community recreation facilities," he said.
