You are invited to be part of a very unique hands-on cricket wicket preparation seminar. This event will cover every aspect of wicket and outfield preparation demonstrated on full size turf wickets. Work side by side with undoubtedly one of Australia’s finest wicket technicians, Les Burdett of Adelaide Oval.

Les Burdett: joined the staff of the South Australian Cricket Association in 1969 and held the position of Oval Manager since 1978 until his recent retirement in June. During his fourty years at Adelaide Oval he has overseen the management of the 15 hectares of turf and buildings and shouldered the responsibility of preparing the international Test wicket. Les’ horticultural expertise and advice is highly regarded, and as well as authoring numerous conference papers he has been a consultant for many international and national projects in India, South Africa and Kuala Lumpur and Australia. In 2001 Les was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in recognition of Service to Cricket and in 2003 this was followed with an Australian Centenary Medal for Service to the Sport of Cricket and the Turf Industry. In 2008, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the turf management industry, charities and the community. Les has been involved with Variety SA since 2001.
Ricky Aitken has been working in the turf industry for the past 18 years. Ricky started his career working on Lawn Bowling Greens in Tasmania. He progressed through his career to work for the local government authority where he managed the Cricket Grounds and Australian Rules football grounds.Ricky completed two six month contracts working on the ground staff at Lord’s cricket ground in London, where he gained more experience within international cricket circles. In the spring of 2002 Ricky left Tasmania to take up a position with the Hong Kong Cricket Club where he took up the role of Grounds Manager. During Ricky’s time in Hong Kong he has expanded on his experience, where he is not only responsible for the Hong Kong Cricket Club turf, but is also a consultant for the Kowloon Cricket Club and Hong Kong Cricket Association. In March of 2008 Ricky received an invitation to manage and prepare the wickets and outfi eld for the Deccan Chargers for the Indian Premier League at the Rajiv Gandi Stadium.
Adam Lewis boasts a long and successful career in the greenkeeping industry. He commenced his profession as a landscaper/horticultralist in 1992 before moving into greenkeeping in 1995. Over the next few years, Adam honed his skills by working at both Hurstville Oval and Hurstville Golf Course. He was appointed Ground Manager of Hurstville Oval in 2001. During his tenure, Hurstville Oval has been awarded the NSW Cricket Association Ground of the Year five times and has hosted numerous high profile matches including Women’s One Day Internationals and the NSW Ford Ranger Cup. Adam is currently Acting Manager, Parks Maintenance at Hurstville City Council.
