Two South Australian sporting clubs are seeing the benefits of a water harvesting scheme, where rainwater is collected off the local silo sheds.

The Arno Bay bowls club and Ports football club have both saved significant amounts of money on watering the greens and the oval. The water is collected in two dams and then piped to the respective grounds.

Football club representative Jim Wedding says the club has been to halve the amount of water needed. "We made a saving of about 3000 kilolitres, and at the current price of around $2 a kilolitre, we are saving about $6000 a year, so it's big money for a club like us."
