Farmers west of Ingham would find it far more difficult to dispose of their empty chemical containers if it weren't for the good work of Shane Green.

dM ChampionWith the nearest drumMUSTER collection site over 40 kilometres away in Warrens Hill, the Manager of Ingham Farm Centre at Abergowrie is a one-man team and a wonderful exponent of a service that collects and recycles eligible chemical containers free of charge. Since Mr. Green first started up the operation in November 2005, he has helped collect over 11,000 containers for the service and Queensland Regional Consultant Colin Hoey has been ecstatic with the work Shane has done.

"The collection site Shane runs here gives the locals a great option for disposing of their containers," Mr. Hoey said.
"He has helped recycle well over a tonne of steel and nearly 13 tonnes of plastic, he promotes drumMUSTER to his clients with a passion and he also recycles batteries, with the proceeds going to local charities. Shane is just great to have on board and we're proud to have a supporter like him within our ranks!"

While he may have nearly two decades of experience, Shane says that he 'learns something new every day' and he is proud to be a driving force behind the increasing return rates in Abergowrie.
"Everything's been going really good with the drumMUSTER site here, I've got about 350 drums in there at the moment," he said.

"When I first started, everybody used to burn them but now they're going back in and I think everything we get back into recycling is a bonus. It's just a convenience for Abergowrie farmers, I've been able to teach them about proper rinsing and they're all learning. It's taken a little time, but people have applied themselves to it and they've started to agree that it's the right thing to do."

Another appreciative of Shane's toil is Manager Sibby Digiacomo, who is delighted at his employee's work ethic.
"Shane does a brilliant job for us, he operates the drumMUSTER collections on his own and he has a terrific following in his area," Mr. Digiacomo said.

"The farmers just love him and he has a really good rapport with growers in that area. Shane also does plenty of work for them after hours, like dropping chemicals off at their place and things like that; the day he ever leaves, you'll need two people to replace him!"

To get in touch with Shane, call (07) 47 774 799 to arrange a time to drop off your containers or for any other Queensland enquiries, get in touch with Colin Hoey on 0428 964 576.
