Treasurer Kevin Foley says the scope has been widened for the project to redevelop Adelaide Oval.

Mr Foley says he is 100 per cent confident the oval redevelopment work will go ahead. But he has hinted an extension beyond July 1 could be given to the football codes and cricket association to sign up to a deal.

The South Australian Treasurer says the Adelaide Oval makeover is still expected to cost $450 million, but an integrated plan is being put together taking the Casino, Festival Theatre and Convention Centre into an overall riverfront development, which could add more to the wider project cost.

"We are not making a grander stadium and a larger stadium and a more fancy stadium," he said.  "The stadium is the stadium that we announced at the election.  "What we will be doing is we want to put an integrated project to the people of South Australia so they can see what will happen when all the bits start to join together."

Mr Foley has indicated a staged project will transform the city precinct.

"What we may also be doing and why I want to hold back on some of the excitement that I have within myself on this project and blurt it out now is that we might be designing other things or we might be changing a few things. We might be making it a grander project in other aspects - there might be stages to the project," he said.
