Rolling with RG3
I have talked to a number of Superintendents who incorporate lightweight rolling into their greens program. Some have found that alternating rolling and mowing at higher mowing heights of cut produce a healthier putting green without sacrificing green speed.
Those managing putting greens in the transition zone have replaced some mowing days with rolling during hot, humid periods to minimize turf stress. Tournament-savvy Superintendents are rolling just before and during the event to increase green speed. Others have found that rolling after a sand-topdressing application helps work in the sand.
To facilitate the Superintendents desire to incorporate rolling into their greens program, RG3 has a built-in "Roll Only" function. In "Roll Only" mode, RG3 travels across the green in the same pattern as if it were mowing, but it does not lower the cutting unit onto the green. The 8" roller traction drum and 5" front roller on RG3 work together to smooth out the green without the added stress of mowing.
Using RG3's advanced scheduling software, the superintendent has the ability to run the "Roll Only" function on any number of days within a seven day recurring cycle (Monday through Sunday). Unique programs can be created, saved, and later retrieved to address any number of specific conditions.
