Queen Elizabeth OvalThe Victorian Government has indicated it is prepared to work with authorities to fix chronic playing surface problems at central Victoria's premier sporting oval.

The City of Greater Bendigo says a draft report has identified three options for Queen Elizabeth Oval's playing area, including installing synthetic or sand-based turfs. But it says any work could cost up to $2 million and the city would need help to fund the project.

Victoria's Sport Minister, James Merlino, would not be drawn on whether the State Government will fund any works, but says he is keeping a close eye on developments. "We need to find out exactly what is required at the Queen Elizabeth Oval," he said. "I'll be working with this working group and also with the members here in Bendigo to find out what is required."
