The Oaks Golf and Country Club will close for business on July 31 to allow fast tracking of the golf course redevelopment and stage one of the release of its residential development in a project estimated to cost $30 million.

The board of directors has resolved to suspend all trading activities from July 31 that will allow about 16 months for the work to be carried out. During this time, no play will be possible on the golf course or bowling green and the Clubhouse will not be open for normal trading activities.

Club president, John Stewart, said discussions are underway with local clubs so golfers and bowlers can find a home during the construction phases. He added that members will not be disadvantaged so far as membership fees are concerned and the balance they have when the club closes will be available to be used when the course re-opens.

Mr. Stewart added that members will retain their affiliations with the Hunter District and NSW golf associations and retain their handicap to play as visitors at the other courses.

Consultant Andrew Fletcher, who has been contracted as a consultant to provide management services there, said the club is scheduled to reopen in about 16 months time with a new 18-hole course, improved clubhouse and 73 residential lots completed.
