Skilled StadiumThe end of the 2009 AFL season signalled the start of a redevelopment of Skilled Stadium in Geelong, home to the 2009 Premiership winning Cats. During this process the old turf and drainage were removed, along with the old goals.

Once the new drainage had been put down and before the new turf was laid PILA group was in Geelong installing the footings for the new 15m/10m aluminium AFL goal posts.

Since this time, the new turf has been laid and has been settling in nicely before the first game in round 4 of the 2010 AFL Premiership season. Tuesday April 29 saw PILA’s Director, Reece Wooldridge and Manufacturing Operations Manager, Craig Patrick in Geelong erecting the Cats new AFL posts in time for the round 4 clash.

During PILA’s two visits to the stadium, talks of stadia for Australia’s World Cup bid have been progressing. The last major hurdle for the 2018-2022 World Cup bid task-force is to lock down the essential stadia which will have minimal impact on other sporting codes in the country during the World Cup.

Recent discussions suggest Skilled Stadium in Geelong could be the recipient of a radial redesign in a bid to get the World Cup to Australia. Preliminary plans suggest the stadium would become rectangular for the World Cup and would hold around 44,000 spectators.

Skilled StadiumThis however is not the first thoughts stadium management have had towards attracting other major sporting events to their regional stadium. When PILA group were in Geelong on their first visit they also installed footings for rugby and soccer goals. The intention of stadium management is to also attract world class Football and Rugby events to Geelong.

PILA group would like to wish Geelong and the Cats good luck in their 2010 season and in their efforts to bring the World Cup to their region.

The posts were made to the exact specifications of the client and their tender documents. This photo was taken during installation so the posts may not have been levelled. I have attached a new photo to this comment.
