The State Opposition says it has been told the cost of the Adelaide Oval's western grandstand redevelopment has blown out by $20 million.

The Opposition's treasury spokesman, Iain Evans, says industry sources say the South Australian Cricket Association will need to ask the Government for a grant, or to extend a $30 million Government guarantee. He says there are also doubts about whether the project will be finished in time for the Ashes test in December.

"SACA say it's going to be finished by October, so on that basis it would be ready for the test," he said. I hope for South Australia's sake it is ready for the test. I can only hope they do get it finished, but the question I guess comes at what cost?"

Infrastructure Minister Pat Conlon says the Government hasn't been approached for more money for the project. "This mischievous piece by Iain Evans that therefore this means there's 20 million dollars going in more is completely completely utterly wrong, it's not true," he said.
