Residents will have the opportunity to have their say on planning for the controversial development on St Clair Oval, in April
The first part of the process will involve the community commenting on its vision for the Woodville Rd development, which will include high density housing, offices and shops.
Cheltenham MP Jay Weatherill said the consultation would be an opportunity “to search for a win-win solution for residents”.“We can get both a high-quality new development and protect the things residents value about the local area,” he said.
But St Clair Reserve Ratepayers Association acting chair Alan Wilson was sceptical about what impact the community’s comments would have on the project.
“We would like to ... think that if we had some comment to make they’d take it on board,” he said. “But (the State Government have) already shown that they won’t give our point of view, in terms of retaining a substantial part of the park, much consideration.”
The oval is the subject of a controversial land swap, which will see a new park built on the adjacent former Actil factory site, as part of a 1200-home housing development.
The State Government will provide details on how the community can become involved in planning for the development early next month. To register your interest, call 08 8207 0801 or email enquiries@lmc.sa.gov.au.
