India will finally have its own pitch party on a trademark Adelaide strip providing the tourists their best chance of success and avoiding a 4-0 whitewash against Australia.
However Adelaide Oval curator Damian Hough noted a sun-baked No.4 strip will also help Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon - his former assistant greenkeeper.
Memories of the shin dig on a juicy Perth strip that so angered India before the third Test should be replaced by relief at a curator sticking to his guns and defying a new mantra to green up wickets around the nation. "I don't think there is any need to change the way I do things. I was taught by Les Burdett for 16 years and he was on the right track. I expect it to be a typical Adelaide Oval pitch," said Hough, with Adelaide the scene of three just draws since 1997-98.
"It started with a little more grass on it only because we had a rock concert on it in December. "You do want something in it on day one, then be a good batting pitch and have it start turning on day four and five."
"It would be nice to have a five-day match and have Sachin Tendulkar score his 100th ton at Adelaide in the last Test he will have on Australian soil," said Hough, wary of a heat-wave weekend being followed by rain next week.
"Adelaide Oval normally turns and I know the rest of the ground staff are excited to see Nathan out there," said Hough of Lyon, who was still working on his ground staff 14 months ago. I haven't had a chat yet with him but when we do I am sure he will give me his opinions, he normally does. Getting young Nathan out there is exciting."
Hough is preparing his penultimate traditional Adelaide Test strip with drop in wickets to be introduced for the 2013 Ashes summer in a redeveloped 50,000 seat stadium which will become the home of football.
The bounce in Melbourne curator Cameron Hodgkins' Boxing Day Test pitch was a source of encouragement for Hough but he accepts retaining turn in the drop-ins to be grown at Adelaide No.2 ground is the key challenge. "I think he's right on the money now," said Hough of Hodgkins.
"If we can have ours ready to go in October 2013, they shouldn't be too different. The soil we have should help us with the ball spinning."
