The community will have the chance to comment on a high rise development at the Mandurah Country Club (MCC) golf course in Halls Head.

Three residential buildings and a new clubhouse have been listed in the development plan that will soon be advertised for Marsh Place. The existing 40-year-old clubhouse will be transformed into a three-level building with restaurant, gym, meeting and spa facilities.

The three residential buildings could be up to eight storeys high and include basement car parking that is to be built into the typography of the land. In total 73 residential dwellings and more than 360 parking bays for residents and club members are part of the plan.

Mandurah City Council voted to release the plan for public comment at its meeting on December 15, although some councillors do not agree with parts of the plan.

Some nearby residents are opposed due to loss of wildlife, privacy and increased traffic volumes. At a Mandurah City Council committee meeting on December 1, councillor Bruce Blay said he was “severely concerned” with the heights of the three eight-storey buildings.“The heights are overpowering to the residents there,” Cr Blay said.

He said some of the buildings would be built on a 15m hill, making the buildings up to 40m above some residents in Portmarnock Circle.

According to City officers, the northern residential building would be 28.6m in height and the base of the building would be 13.5m above the level of the Portmarnock properties, making the highest point 42.1m above the homes.
