RainSensor into a controllerRainSensor into a controller

To connect a rain switch to a controller with pump start and no rain sensor terminals, connect the sensor as per the following diagram. Ensure that the sensor is configured to be normally closed. Toro and Irritrol rain sensors can be configured to either normally open or normally closed.

Where can I find manuals for old controllers?

Manuals for older Lawn Genie, Rain Jet, Hydro-Rain, Hardie/Irritrol and Richdel controllers can be sourced from: www.lawngenie.com.
(On the home page of this site, look to the centre bottom of the page and left click on Product Manuals, select the appropriate controller and download a pdf version of the manual).

For current controllers in the Toro range see:
www.toro.com/irrigation/document_download.html
For current Irritrol controllers, see:
www.irritrol.com/resources/product_literature.html

N.B. Not all Toro and Irritrol controllers listed on these sites may be available for sale in Australia.

How can I install more than one soil moisture sensor (101SMS) onto my automatic irrigation system?

install more than one soil moisture sensor

Providing that a pump is not connected to the controller, then more than one soil moisture sensor can be connected as per the following diagram. In this configuration the sensor adds approximately 100mA of current to the valve circuit. Prior to installation, ensure that the combined current draw of the solenoid and moisture sensor will not trigger the fuse for the station.
