A fire on Friday the 18th of December destroyed much of Bannockburn Golf Clubs course maintenance equipment and valuable resources. Any assistance for the ailing club would be greatly appreciated.

Members tried in vain to save one of three equipment sheds, which contained the clubs tractor and mowing equipment. By the time the local fire brigade arrived the shed was beyond salvage and the focus was directed at saving the two sheds on either side of the blaze, which also contained a great deal of equipment. When these sheds were secure it took the efforts of three tankers to extinguish the fire.

The damage is extensive with the shed destroyed along with all machinery and equipment that was stored inside; including the club’s main mowing unit, which consisted of a tractor and a five blade slasher, a club trailer, a motor mower, a small super spreader, belts, bearings, sprinklers, tools and some weedicide which ironically had been placed in this shed because it was cooler than the others. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

As one volunteer commented, “We can’t believe it, the first decent spring for over ten years, the course is mowing up a treat, green fee usage is up and now this happens.”

The disaster couldn’t have come at a worse time. Insurance claims take time to process, however, the down-time during the Christmas period will extend this time substantially. Bannockburn appeals for assistance from any clubs with regards to borrowing mowing equipment, mowers or maintenance assistance until their claims have been processed and equipment replaced.

If any clubs are able to offer assistance please call Richard Franklin, the Secretary of   Bannockburn Golf Club on, 0408369906 or visit www.bannockburngolfclub.org.au
