It was only a few years ago that the surface of Etihad Stadium (formerly Telstra Dome) was constantly discussed due to it's poor playing surface & the continuous need for turf replacement. Advanced Seed

The surface was simply not surviving the rigors of the Melbourne Winter. Uninterrupted sports usage compounded the problem but the major factor for the poor quality was that the turf was without sunlight for a large percentage of the day, infact the majority receiving no sun at all.

Following a European trend, a decision was made to purchase a lighting system for grass warmth. Evergreen Turf Covers were incorporated to hold the radiant heat, and together have proved to be a great success.

The lights give approximately an extra 3°C of warmth to the grass, whilst the cover will hold up to an extra 5°C of radiant heat.

Evergreen is a woven fabric made of high density polyethylene tapes and lace coated on one side with a low density polyethylene. They are U.V Stabilized and suitable for prolonged outdoor exposure.

The cost of replacing worn turf has been significantly reduced.

Etihad Stadium can now boast a surface that is far superior than past years.
