Essendon Bowling Club members have agreed to stay at Windy Hill.
Essendon Bowling Club is staying put.
Club secretary Patrick Dowling said 90 male members voted to unanimously to reject a move from Windy Hill at last night’s annual general meeting.

Mr Dowling said members supported a three-part motion, which said:
- Any move to merge or amalgamation with another bowls club be rejected;
- That Essendon Bowling Club stay at Windy Hill; but
- That any suitable and appropriate site that may become available in the future would be considered.

Essendon Football Club president David Evans, chief executive Ian Robson and head of strategic development Dominic Cato attended the meeting, with Mr Robson and Mr Evans speaking to bowls club members for about 25 minutes and answering questions, he said.

“They said the usual: we had to find a compromise, and it was important that EFC stay at Windy Hill, Mr Dowling said. “EFC are saying compromise, but the compromise has to come from our side, and that’s not a compromise.”

If the bowls club did move from Windy Hill, it would cost $4 million to set up new facilities, club rooms, bowling greens, and equipment sheds, he said. “We wouldnt settle for anything less than what we have got now, Mr Dowling said.

The Essendon Bowling Club’s 50 women members will vote on the motion at their AGM next week, with the board of club expected to ratify the decision in June.
