The time of year has come around when turf managers should be looking to oversow their warm or cool season grounds with high quality perennial ryegrasses, to provide a quality surface for the winter months. The standards for winter surface performance and appearance is constantly rising; turf managers find themselves under pressures to produce surfaces which meet player and spectator expectations.

PGG Wrightson Turf proudly supply a range of perennial ryegrasses that have been bred specifically for winter sports activity, making them a first choice when considering turf seed for a winter surface.

The secret to PGG Wrightson successful cultivars for winter overseeding is in the Australasian breeding program. Mediterranean germplasm (parent material) has been crossed with either elite American or European cultivars to produce ryegrasses that not only germinate and aggressively establish in temperatures down to 5°C, but have excellent wear tolerances and mid-green colour.

‘Sports Oval’ is a blend of our top performing winter active ryegrasses that have important individual attributes. The blend incorporates ‘Arena’, a highly winter active variety, ‘Colosseum’ a medium fine, mid-green variety and ‘Tambour’, a year round top performer. All of these varieties have excellent establishment vigour, wear tolerances, medium green colour.

For turf managers that are looking for darker ryegrass varieties with outstanding characteristics, our ‘Trio Pro’ blend maybe an alternative option. Three elite American type ryegrasses have been selected for their dark green and excellent turf type qualities which provide a high quality surface. .

‘Sports Oval’ and ‘Trio Pro’ are blends in PGG Wrightson’s DURATURF range, which has been put together to make choosing a seed mix for your situation that much easier.

If you have any further questions regarding any of these products or our DURATURF range in general, please do not hesitate to contact your Local PGG Wrightson Turf seed distributor or 1800 DURATURF www.pggwrightsonturf.com
