Work has begun on world class training facilities at Drummoyne Oval as part of its multi-million dollar redevelopment.

The new precinct already includes two amenities blocks containing grandstand seating, function space and storage built at a cost of $5.3 million. The next stage of the development includes 12 enclosed training nets with turf pitches.

Sydney Cricket Club general manager David Kelly said having four nets available at any one time meant better access for more players. He said the ability to rotate active wickets across all 12 nets meant the condition of the turf pitches could be better managed.

"The Sydney Sixers have said they will train here alongside our first graders and Cricket NSW will utilise the facilities as well." Mr Kelly said the club, Cricket NSW, Canada Bay Council and the state government are all contributing to the cost.

With the new training facility, Drummoyne Oval is poised to become one of the top sporting complexes in Sydney with a further $1.75 million pledged for other improvements including six lighting towers at the ground.
