The Town of Vincent says it has no intention of selling Perth Oval to the State Government.

The refusal could slow the Government's plans to re-develop the stadium at the East Perth precinct. The Vincent Mayor, Nick Catania, says the area is a valuable asset.

"It has other facilities, not just the stadium, so we'd like to keep it and we're quite happy to give the Government a long lease so they can get the benefit of any investment they put in," he said.

The State Government says negotiations are proceeding well and it is confident of a positive outcome.
