Bulleen is celebrating news it will get a $300,000 grant for a synthetic soccer pitch.

The State Government grant will mean the popular club will have a ground that can be used by sports clubs and schools year-round. The announcement followed a five-year funding campaign by the club and Bulleen state Liberal MP Nicholas Kotsiras, and club president Dallila Sabbadini said members were thrilled with the announcement. Labor MP Brian Tee with Bulleen Royals soccer players who will soon have an all-year surface at the Veneto Club.

“The Veneto Club was built on a formula for success and I am confident that this is going to be our field of dreams,” Ms Sabbadini said. “This is not only fantastic news for the young soccer stars of the Bulleen Royals Football Club, but a huge gift for the Manningham community.” Ms Sabadini said the present couch-grassed ground was receiving a battering from the 750 children who played on the pitch each weekend.

The synthetic turf is expected to be installed by next March. Mr Kotsiras said it was wonderful news for the whole community. “I am very pleased to see that the club and the community will have the sporting facilities they deserve and worked hard to get,” Mr Kotsiras said.

Eastern Metropolitan state Labor MP Brian Tee gave the club the good news. “Facilities like the Veneto Club are the glue that holds the community together and this grant will boost sporting and social activities in the Eastern Region,” he said. The grant was part of the State Government’s $12.9 million Drought Relief for Community Sport program.
