The brand new Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, which has been built on the famous Lansdowne Road site (the oldest international rugby venue in the world), is now complete and open to the public.
Australian furniture manufacturer Sebel was awarded the contract for supply and installation of the seating for the stadium due to their demonstrated capability in managing complex international projects and the proven reputation of their products.
Sebel worked with the stadium’s management team, architects and builders, to supply and install 50,000 of its world-renowned Viva tip-up stadium seats to ensure a solution that was commensurate with the aesthetic and comfort requirements of such an important project.
Mr Declan Brennan, Fixed Seating Manager at Sebel said that the stadium was a significant project for the company. He said, “Apart from being the largest player in Australia and NZ, Sebel is known as a world leader in supplying fixed seating solutions, having previously completed seating fit-outs for stadia projects in South Africa, Asia, Middle East, Europe, UK and Latin America”.
“The venue is an iconic building and is the newest international stadium in Europe. Being able to complete such an important project has allowed us to demonstrate our ability to manage large projects on the far side of the globe. Sebel is also one of the world’s largest suppliers of education seating and this diversification and strong financial capacity provided much comfort to all stakeholders in a time of such economic uncertainty.” Mr Brennan added. Sebel designed the Viva as a seat that could be used in either general admission seating or premium seating. The clever modular design means that there is a model of Viva to suit most budgets and applications. The ingenious design simplifies the installation process and eliminates much of the ongoing maintenance associated with spectator seating.
The Aviva Stadium has a seated capacity of 50,000 and all seating in the stadium is under cover of a roof. The stadium consists of a continuous curvilinear shaped stand enclosing all four sides of the ground. The South, East, and West stands have four tiers of seating for spectators, with the bottom and top tiers providing the main volume of spectating facilities.
The stadium will be home to international rugby and soccer games as well as a concert and events venue. Sebel is one of the world’s biggest suppliers of seating for schools and stadia, and has a network of offices throughout Australia, with subsidiaries in New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.
In addition, licensed Sebel distributors operate in key markets throughout the globe.
The company is part of Australia’s leading supplier of fittings and fixtures for commercial and residential applications – GWA International Ltd.
