The AFL says the artificial turf around the interchange area at the MCG has the same spring as the natural turf, after the AFL Players Association sought clarification yesterday. artificial surface

The AFLPA requested more information on the width and hardness of the artificial turf after Melbourne co-captain Jack Grimes and Tiger Daniel Jackson were involved in incidents that left both groggy when they were tackled over the boundary line on Saturday.

AFLPA general manager player relations Ian Prendergast was confident the turf met all AFL stipulations but had sought clarification. ''There was a suggestion it was encroaching further on to the playing surface but I don't think that's the case,'' he said. ''I also think the hardness reading was within the AFL's parameters.''

The artificial turf has been in place since last year and hasn't changed this season.
