Magazine: Flemington Update For Grand National

By Mick Goodie in Racing on 28th Jun 2008 11:05

The Flemington track is rated a good 3, rare for a Grand National. Flemington racecourse

Track manager Mick Goodie applied 3mm of water on Thursday. "I know some jumping people would like me to water again today but it has a great cover of grass," Goodie said yesterday.

A dual Grand National Hurdle-winning rider and one of the most respected figures in jumps racing, Durden said administrators needed to address two factors to improve the troubled image of the sport.

"They should lengthen races and put in more jumps to slow them down," Durden said.

CHARTED can provide Kath and Craig Durden with their biggest win as a racing team in today's VRC Grand National Hurdle at Flemington.

The absence of injured Australian Hurdle winner Emgee Rex and Australia's best hurdler Some Are Bent, who is recovering from a virus, has paved the way for one of the most open Grand Nationals in memory.

TAB Sportsbet has Charted and the David Hayes-trained Danever $5.50 equal favourites.
