Magazine: $90 million Torquay Golf Club Redevelopment Problems?

By Editor in Golf on 15th Mar 2010 10:00

The $90 million Torquay Golf Club redevelopment will not go ahead until the issue of piping stormwater from Duffields Rd to the course was resolved, the club's president says.

Greg Libbis said yesterday he was hopeful the issue could be dealt with soon to clear the way for the development to commence. Writing in the club's newsletter, Mr Libbis said the delays in the development were frustrating but he hoped there would soon be some action.

Mr Libbis said it was hoped the matter would have been considered at the Surf Coast Shire's February council meeting but that did not occur. He said Colin Jordan, head of the RACV which owns the course, had met with the council before Christmas "to try and finally resolve the water position".

The RACV is seeking permission from the council to pipe stormwater from the area around Duffields and Hoylake roads to new dams to be built on the golf course. Mr Libbis said the RACV was still committed to the project. "But there is no point starting until all the permits are there," he said.

Through the club newsletter he told members drainage contractors had been appointed and tenders for construction of the new clubhouse had been shortlisted. "I can appreciate the frustration this is causing to some members but until the Surf Coast council give the greenlight to our water solution, works will not commence," he wrote. "I want to assure all members that the RACV is ready to move the moment the council approve the water solution."
