Resource consent has been given for a new luxury golf course in the Far North of New Zealand.
Lion Rock Golf Course will be situated near the renowned Kauri Cliffs course, on the Purerua Peninsula in the northern Bay of Islands. It will include a luxury lodge and residential accommodation.
Northland's Carrington golf course on the Karikari Peninsula is also world-renowned.
The Far North District Council granted consent after it was satisfied the company, Lion Rock Golf Course Limited, had demonstrated how the environmental effects of the development had, and would be, mitigated.
The multi-million dollar course will be built on a 140ha cliff top site at Purerua Peninsula. The 18 hole golf course will also feature eighteen visitor accommodation buildings, a clubhouse and lodge.
Up to 30 rural-residential lots will also be built on the site.
Along with Carrington and adjacent Kauri Cliffs golf courses, it is the third major golf course in the Far North.
