Magazine: $7 million upgrade of Launceston's Aurora Stadium
By Press Release in A.F.L on 30th Apr 2009 6:00
The Rudd Labor Government has today offered up to $4 million towards the $7 million upgrade of Launceston's Aurora Stadium.
The funding is part of our $800 million Community Infrastructure Program - the largest one-off investment in local infrastructure in Australia's history.
This historic program is supporting jobs and stimulating local economies during the global economic recession, while at the same time putting in place vital community infrastructure.
The Stadium upgrade will involve the construction of a new 2,125-seat grandstand, increasing the ground's overall capacity from 11,700 to 13,825 seats.
The redevelopment will also provide new facilities for the North Launceston Junior Football Club, Mowbray Cricket Club, Old Launcestonians Football Club, and the Northern Tasmanian Football Umpires Association.
Without our substantial financial contribution, this important local project - which has been on drawing board for a couple of years - would not now be so close to becoming a reality.
The project will managed by Launceston City Council. The funding announced today builds on the $578,000 we have already delivered to Launceston City Council for eight local infrastructure projects.
