For 100 years cricket has been played at Hagley Park and the development of a first-class test venue is something very important for the Canterbury community. Canterbury Cricket has a strong aspiration to host international cricket in Christchurch and the provision of a first class playing surface is a critical factor for achieving this goal. Mexted’s Performance Sports Surfaces has been contracted to complete the upgrade of the playing surfaces and we need someone prepared to do what it takes to prepare the venue for 1st class cricket in the summer of 2013 season. Achieving this will put Christchurch back on the cricketing map ensuring consideration for the hosting of ICC World Cup matches in 2015.
Naturally, you will have an affiliation and passion for cricket along with strong practical experience. You’ll need a Level 4 certificate in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent) and have worked for at least 3 years as a Turf Manager for cricket wicket preparation for international cricket. But we will also need you to have:
• strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• a demonstrated track record of people management skills in a culturally diverse environment
• exemplary standards of personal conduct and professional ethics
• a strong customer service focus
• an ability to work under pressure and to tight timeframes
• a willingness and positive attitude to working 7-days a week during the summer months or as the match schedule requires.
And, we will need to know we can rely on you to get the job done – even when the pressure is on.
Initially this position is a fixed term contract through to June 2013 whilst the construction commitments are completed. Following this a role will be established as part of an ongoing commitment to international cricket in Christchurch. The position pays handsomely and there is use of a company vehicle with the role.
